Now that you have your characters, it’s time to write your story! First, decide how structured you want your story to be; murder mysteries can be entirely scripted, or treated as free play with some guiding cues! Then, choose the murderer and their victim(s). Once you have the major stuff down, the smaller details will fall into place. If you’re having trouble working out the details when planning the murder, ask yourself the five W’s and an H: who, what, where, when, why, and how. Each character should have a set of motives, red herrings, and connections to at least one or two other players. Mystery Dinner Games 1 The Read Me folder is the most important - it has the Host Instructions booklet that tells you all that you need to know to host a fun murder mystery dinner game or party. It also has some legal information and some information about how to win a £10 voucher off your next game or even vouchers for two parties. Virtual Murder Mysteries include a Tip Sheet for Running Virtual Mysteries.
Once you’ve settled on a theme, decide how event activities will unfold. When planning a murder mystery party, you may write a detailed script or participate in free-play mode. During scripted play, guests follow their lines, receiving cues and instructions that propel the plot. There is no set script in free-play, and participants can play their characters as they wish.
