With its high-speed, futuristic races and gravity-defying tracks, F-Zero X was truly a revolutionary racing game for the Nintendo 64. The game boasted 30 unique vehicles, each with its own distinct attributes, and featured a powerful soundtrack that perfectly complemented its breakneck pace. The addition of the "Death Race" mode, where the objective was to eliminate opponents rather than simply outrun them, added a thrilling twist to the gameplay. The 3D graphics and smooth framerate also showcased the capabilities of the N64 hardware, making F-Zero X a must-play title for speed junkies. Dubbed Electric Battle Command, this Kenner developed game prominently displayed an X-Wing, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia on the game's standalone hardware, but the gameplay didn't have much to do with Star Wars at all, and pushed the player to avoid black holes and locate the "Force-giving star."

When all is said and done, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire gave a lot of people many great memories in the pantheons of both Star Wars and Nintendo nostalgia, but it would be a lie to say that it lives up to the memories. You could probably find worse Star Wars games, but Shadows of the Empire no longer wows like it once did. The Best N64 Racing Games
The Sega Genesis offerings are a bit deeper, featuring 14 games, including Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the hilariously named Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, and Strider, which my editor insists is a Capcom arcade action masterpiece. Rebel without a cause. There is Another… Previously, these games were only available digitally on most storefronts, so it’s cool to see a packaged deal. Aspyr did not announce a release date or price for either collection yet, though.
